I'm working on getting the DarwinZero blog up and running. Check back soon for thoughts from some apoplectic (but not quite stuffed yet) animals on the state of the world. I do have some music related news up and coming ... stay tuned.

Just read the latest article in the Ann Arbor Paper by my brother. The clouds are cotton candy pink and it's a lazy autumn evening here in Michigan... meanwhile half a world away the US military is preparing a full out assualt on Fallujah.

The times they are a sucking. I am commencing my 4-year protest today. Thanks to the American public voting scared we can look forward to a truly frightening future. The only consolation is that the Bush administration will now have to deal with all the shit they've created over last four years. Some of it will certainly be flung back their way. The flip side to that is that we're likely to get hit, too.

In the aftermath of the election I sat down and read some Thoreau. Our hands are not tied.

"Law never made men a whit more just; and by means of their respect for it, even the well-disposed are daily made the agents of injustice.  A common and natural result of an undue respect for law is that you may see a file of soldiers, colonel, captain, corporal, privates, powder-monkeys, and all marching in admirable order over hill and dale to the wars, against their wills, ay, against their common sense and consciences, which makes it very steep marching indeed, and produces a palpitation of the heart.  They have no doubt that it is a damnable business in which they are concerned; they are all peaceably inclined. Now, what are they?  Men at all? or small movable forts and magazines, at the service of some unscrupulous man in power?  The mass of men serve the State thus, not as men mainly, but as machines, with their bodies.... In most cases there is no free exercise whatever of the judgment or of the moral sense; but they put themselves on a level with wood and earth and stones; and wooden men can perhaps be manufactured that will serve the purpose as well."

~Henry David Thoreau, On the Duty of Civil Disobedience

Welcome to the new Lyrebird website. The Lyrebird is an alter-ego for songwriter Ben Adams. Just in time for Halloween he is releasing his Mr. Hyde out into the world. His debut CD entitled Blood Diamonds is now available online at Cd Baby and at fine shows around SE Michigan.

The songs were recorded in two sessions in Seattle with producer and musician Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, REM). Along with engineer and knob-twister extraordinare Kip Beelman, KS and Ben managed to pop out a manifesto of sublime incoherency.
